Guidelines & Costs for Authors & Creators

Authorship/Creation

Included works/creations will usually be authored/created, in part or whole, by a Mines academic staff member, student, or entity. Content does not have to be authored by a Mines affiliate. For example, a campus unit may use the repository to post papers from a conference it sponsors, which includes authors from Mines and other institutions or organizatons.

All student theses and dissertations will be accepted for deposit. Other student works must be sponsored by a Mines academic staff member who deems the work suitable for long term preservation and access through the repository.

Author/Creator Rights

The author(s)/creator(s) should be prepared to grant to Mines the non-exclusive right to preserve and disseminate the work according to the terms of the Deposit AgreementPDF versionText only version.

The author(s)/creator(s) should be prepared to confirm that any existing agreements related to the work, such as publication agreements previously completed with journal publishers, are not in conflict with preservation and dissemination of the work through the Mines Ihstitutional Repository. For information with rights determination see the Copyright FAQ.

Nature of the Work

The work should be scholarly, educational, and/or research-based and merit long term preservation and dissemination.

Works should be in a "finished" or "fixed" state.

The work must be submitted in an approved digital file format.

If the work is part of a series, other works in that series should also be submitted.  Alternately, information identifying the series should be submitted in order that the larger context of the work is not lost.

Costs

The Mines Institutional Repository provides an exceptionally high quality environment for data discovery, accessibility, transmissibility, and preservation.

In aggregate, materials under 1 TB in size will be stored, preserved, and made accessible at no cost to the project. The PI(s) will evaluate, distill, and select the data for preservation.

In aggregate, materials over 1 TB in size will be stored, preserved, and made accessible at a rate of $150/TB for 5 years or $300/TB for longer than 5 years which is included as an incidental, direct cost in the project budget. The PI(s) will evaluate, distill, and select the data for preservation.

Note that in aggregate, some data sets may be beyond the scope of the Mines Institutional Repository and will need to be stored elsewhere. Metadata and related materials can be stored in the Mines Institutional Repository and will point to the external data sets.
