Use EndNote

Create your EndNote Basic account using your Mines email address to access expanded features (see the features included in EndNote Basic; check the box that says "I have Web of Science").  The first time you use EndNote, you will need to register by clicking "Create An Account" above the sign-in box (not the Shibboleth log-in link below).  See more FAQs on getting started with EndNote Basic.

References can be exported from a database into EndNote Basic. Exporting citations is a little different from each database.

Databases (Databases with no export)

 

ASCE Conference Proceedings Export (and SIAM Journals)

  • Select records
  • Click "Download Citation"
  • Select "EndNote (R) (RIS)" from pull-down menu
  • Click "Download"
  • Log in to EndNote web, if prompted
  • Look for the pop-up message that your citation(s) have been saved to EndNote Web

EndNote Filter: None required

 

 Ebsco Export (Academic Search Premier, Business Source Premier, GreenFILE, etc.)

  • Click "Add" to select records, or open single record (skip to step 4 if exporting a single item)
  • Click "Folder" at top of page
  • Select desired items by marking the check-boxes
  • Click "Export"
  • Select "Direct Export to EndNote Web"  (you may be prompted to log into EndNote Web, if you are not already)
  • EndNote Web should show "Number of records imported: x"

EndNote Filter: None required
 

 

Energy Citation Database Export (from the Department of Energy)

  • Select records
  • Click "Show only (√) Items"
  • Click "Download (√) Items as EndNote"
  • Select "Save" and click "Ok"
  • Rename file, if you wish, and remember where you saved it!

  • Rename file, if you wish, and remember where you saved it!

GeoScienceWorld Export

  • Select records
  • At the bottom of the page, select "download to citation manager"
  • Click "Go"
  • Click "Download ALL Selected Citations to Citation Manager"
  • Click "EndNote"
  • Select "Save" and click "Ok"
  • Rename file, if you wish, and remember where you saved it!

Google Scholar Export

  • Note that citations have to be exported one at a time
  • Click "Cite" below citation information
  • Select "Import into EndNote" from the bottom of the pop-up
  • A window will appear telling you that your reference has been saved

  • Select records
  • Click "Download Citations"
  • Select if you want the citation or the citation and abstract from the pull down menu
  • Select "EndNote/ProCite/RefMan" from the pull down menu

  • Rename file, if you wish, and remember where you saved it!

  • Click "Retrieve Marked"
  • Use the save feature of your browser
  • Enter a file name, select "Text File" from pull down menu, and click "Save"

  • Select records
  • Click "Export"
  • Select what you want to "Export" and select "EndNote (get latest filters)"
  • Click "Export"

 Proquest (GeoRef, METADEX, TOXLINE, etc.)

  • From list of results, check the box in front of citation(s) you want, or open full record of desired citation
  • Click "Export/Save" at upper right
  • Select "RIS" from list of choices
  • Click "Continue" in the pop-up box.  Another pop-up will open (you may need to override your browser's security setting to allow download)
  • Click "Save" and choose location to save .ris file
  • Close the Download dialog box
  • Rename file, if you wish, and remember where you saved it!

Prospector (Regional Catalog) Export

  • In the Classic Catalog, mark desired records
  • Click "Save Marked Records"
  • Click "Export Saved"
  • Select "End-Note/RefWorks" and select "Local Disk"

  • Rename file, if you wish, and remember where you saved it!

  • Select records

  • Select the "Content Format" you want and select "RIS format (for Reference Manager, ProCite, EndNote)"

  • Select records
  • Click "Export"
  • Select "Citation Export Format (RIS)" under Citation Manager
  • Enter a file name
  • Click "Export"
  • Select "Save" and click "OK"

Web of Science Export

  • Select records
  • Select "Save to EndNote Web"
  • If you are not logged into EndNote Web, you will be asked to enter your username and password for EndNote Web
  • If successful, a message or a marker next to the citation will appear indicating the records were exported

PubMed

  • Select records
  • Click "Send to"
    Select "Citation Manager"
    Click "Create File"
    Remember where you saved the file!

  • Go to myendnoteweb.com
  • Click "Collect"
  • Click "Import References"
  • Click "Browse" and find the file saved from the database
  • From the pull down menu, select the filter
  • Click "Import"
  • If successful, you will receive a message "Number of records imported: x" where x is some number other than zero.
