Availability:
Many Microsoft products are installed in the ADIT domain centrally managed Windows Labs, located in CTLM and the Library, as well as other campus labs. Additional installations may be made in accordance with the legal scope of the license described below.
Scope of License:
Microsoft Select Contract - Available only for Mines-owned, campus located machines and not free.
Microsoft Academic Alliance (MSDNAA) contracts provide some departments with building-wide licenses for qualifying software.
Applies only to: Engineering, Geology, Math and Computer Science, Metallurgy, Mining.
Details of License:
Select Contract - The products are available for installation on campus-owned, campus-located machines for use by faculty, staff, and students in support of CSM's Academic Mission. This licensing method is not available for installation on machines not owned by CSM.
Academic Alliance Members - Qualifying products may be available for installation on personally owned or off-campus machines. Please contact the Mines Help Center for more information on qualifying products.
Licensing is usually controlled by serial number and the Windows Genuine Advantage Program managed by Microsoft.
Obtaining:
If you need a Microsoft software product installed on a CSM-owned machine, CCIT will want you to begin by submitting a request to the Mines Help Center. Minimally we will need to know your name, your advisor or equivalent if you are a student, your phone extension, the machine's operating system, location and owner, and the general use to which the software will be put.
Cost to Qualified CSM End-Users: Select Contract - Priced according to the most recent Spectrum Software price sheet.
Please note: Microsoft Office is only available to campus owned, campus-located machines and only under the terms of the CSM~Microsoft Select Contract.
Academic Alliance Partnered Departments - Contact the Mines Help Center for more information.
Personal Copies of Microsoft Office - Microsoft's The Ultimate Steal program for education.
All Others - Purchase the software from Andrew Kraus, CCIT's CDWG sales rep, or other vendor.
Licensing: Once legally purchased, the license is permanent or expires when Microsoft stops supporting the product.
Frequency of Updates:
Microsoft updates their software routinely as security issues are discovered. Make sure to set your Windows Operating System to automatically obtain Microsoft Updates. If you need help with that, please submit a Mines Help Center request for help.

In case of difficulties running the software in a CSM CCIT managed lab: Contact CCIT via the Mines Help Center! We want the program to be properly installed, licensed and functioning.
